I’m so grateful to Rae for having me here today. This collection is a very special one to me because it was the brainchild of Barbara Devlin about a year ago. She very much wanted to do a holiday collection and I had never done one before, so when she proposed the kissing bough theme, I was on board right away. I’ve worked with many of the ladies in the collection already and consider them dear friends, and Barbara pulled together several more to make it a really diverse and talented group.
My story is based on a poem by Edgar Allan Poe, “A Dream within A Dream”. I’m a huge fan of Poe’s and often times when I do short novellas, I’ll based the novella on one of his poems. Kind of weave his themes into my storyline, as it were, and this novella was no different. Since the whole kissing bough-theme has to do with dreaming, it really was perfect. A lonely knight, a woman who vows not to marry, and I had the beginnings of a fabulous story. I had great fun writing it.
It’s really been a pleasure doing this collection with all of these talented authors and we have great hopes that the readers will love each and every story.

There is nothing sexier than a knight who realizes the power in dreams. Kathryn’s attention to the smallest details make even the most simple scene poetic. Our heroine has much to learn and hopefully she will find love through the mistletoe.I loved Kathryn’s story and found this tale a welcomed and refreshing addition to this must read anthology.

…He did seem to care about his body, she noted. He had wide, broad shoulders that tapered to narrow hips. She imagined that his flat stomach would be firm and toned. Whether he worked to achieve that lean, healthy body because of vanity, the pleasure of working out, or for necessity because his job required it, she didn’t know. She also didn’t know why, when she’d seen thousands of male bodies before, his made her pulse increase. Maybe it was because he wasn’t on an examining table and she wasn’t his doctor.
“I need to talk to you about the Fa La La Cajun Christmas on the Bayou Celebration,” she said, shifting in the rocker to fully face him.
He stood, walked down the stairs and sat on the second step.
Dear Lord. How do I have a serious discussion with him when he’s a moving target? She promptly followed him down the steps and stood nearby. “Your island is important to the success of the celebration.”
His response was to pick up a pair of running shoes, knocking them upside down against one another, before putting them on his bare feet.
She moved to stand directly in front of him. “It’s quite a serious matter.” He looked at her tapping foot and smiled. Heat rushed into her cheeks. She hadn’t even realized she was doing it. She pressed her foot soundly to the ground.
“You’re wound up with too much energy, Doc.” He tied his shoes in a slow easy manner. “Let’s go for a walk.” He stood.
She joined him as he started to walk away. Her phone dinged in her back pocket as she reached Hunter’s side. She read her text – it was from Edward. Do you want me to come to the island to assist you?
Her phone dinged again. Another text. It was from her mother: Don’t let Edward go to the island. You’ll have a better chance to convince Hunt to change his mind if it’s just the two of you. We’ve met him. He’s safe. You won’t need your papa’s gun from the boat just in case you were thinking about that. Don’t forget to finger-comb your hair.
And then there was a third text from her older sister, Sarah: He’s really handsome. Smile a lot and don’t shoot him.
She’d been home for less than an hour and her family was already trying to tell her what to do and play matchmaker. Both reasons why she’d left in the first place.

“Oswald!” The shriek of his name accompanied a stinging burn on Oz’s cheek, and he was fairly certain the imprint of Selene’s lovely hand flared on his skin.
Admiring the pink tinge of her cheeks, the fiery glare that made her hazel eyes glow, and slight quiver of her full bottom lip, he stepped in another few inches and smiled.
“Oh, come on, Kitty-Kitty. It wasn’t that bad.”
“You had no right to kiss me. None!” She pointed a finger of the offending hand into his face. “You are an unbelievably incorrigible, inappropriate, unacceptable clod.”
“Aren’t you the one who hung the mistletoe?” Gently taking her warm hand in his, he turned her finger to point to the deep green sprig dangling from a red velvet bow above her head.
As if on perfect cue a slight gasp escaped her mouth, and Oz counted the usual five seconds it took The Vampire Guard’s accountant to regain her composure.
With practiced precision and in this exact order Selene’s back stiffened, her mouth closed, shoulders dropped, and her deliciously curved chin turned up before she slowly blinked, though did not make eye contact with the kissing clod standing inches from her.

Why I joined the set: When Barbara Devlin came up with the kissing bough set a year ago, I was very excited to join the group and loved the idea. Since so many of my fellow authors who also write for Kathryn Le Veque’s De Wolfe pack in Kindle Worlds would be joining in, I looked forward to working with them once again.

Annalyse looked up to the kissing bough hanging right above her head, and her heartbeat resounded in her ears so loudly she was sure others could hear it, too. Never had she thought she’d ever be standing under a kissing bough and the idea excited her. The bough was a ball interwoven with twigs and fir tree greenery, decorated with an apple, candles, and berries. The abundance of holly decorating it would surely bring good luck.
Then she saw the ivy above her head and a knot formed in her stomach. Everyone knew ivy was supposed to be kept outdoors and not brought across the threshold because that meant death. Then again, perhaps that was naught more than a silly superstition. Dangling precariously from the bottom of the kissing bough was a fresh sprig of green mistletoe with several small, white berries. This was something she’d never seen at the abbey. The church didn’t allow mistletoe within its holy walls since it was associated with pagan customs and Druids.
Once again, she felt as if she were doing something naughty by standing here. Not just because of the traditions, but because her sister needed her and she was purposely stalling. Gabrielle, being the first-born twin, had experienced kisses under the mistletoe many times in her life and Annalyse decided now it was her turn. She couldn’t pass up this opportunity. Even though Gabrielle was heavy with child and her message sounded urgent, she would have to wait just a little longer.
“Och, my lady, I didna even see ye standin’ there.”
Annalyse’s eyes dropped from the kissing bough to see a Scot with a tankard in his hand heading in her direction. His broad chest was large and foreboding, while his hair boasted the color of the fiery hot flames of hell. Not that she’d know what the flames of hell looked like, since she’d been raised by nuns and attended church several times a day. If the nuns hadn’t been superstitious, they would have accepted her into the Order. But they didn’t want The Almighty scowling down at them for bringing a cursed second-born twin into their Order and so she remained an outcast even in the eyes of God.
The Scot’s craggy brows lifted and she saw a playful twinkle in his dangerous green eyes. Scots were to be feared and this one looked to be an abundance of trouble. He smiled at her. That told her he didn’t know who she was or he’d be keeping his distance. With a saffron leine half-open she could see the hairs on his chest peeking out from between the leather laces of his tunic. A dark green plaid wrapped around his waist and was thrown over one shoulder and pinned with a metal badge.
She didn’t dare even to breathe. Never had she ever been so close to one of these savages before and wondered if she were in danger. After all, the Scots were enemies of the English. What could this man possibly be doing in her father’s castle? Her gaze shot around the room as she desperately scanned the area, looking for her sister. Gabrielle was nowhere to be seen, only ladies and knights standing under more kissing boughs. The women giggled and the men pulled them into their arms and kissed them in front of everyone. This wasn’t what she expected to find at all and it would do naught to help her out of this awkward position.
“I suppose ye’re waitin’ for a kiss as well, my lady. Well, I willna disappoint ye.”
Before she had a chance to object, the Scotsman pulled her up against his chest with one hand while he cradled his drink in the other.

I was delighted when Barbara Devlin and Kathryn Le Veque invited me to participate in the Under The Kissing Bough boxset because I’d worked with them in Kathryn’s Kindle World of the de Wolfe Pack and that was a wonderful experience. I wanted to work with them again, and the perfect opportunity came along with this Christmas set. I had already started writing If You Loved Me, another lighthearted romance in my Farthingale series, that took place during the Christmas season, but I was looking for that special, charming twist to make it irresistible to my readers.
