EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT:

Miranda:

The solid wood door swung out easily when I pulled, and my heart began beating a quicker rhythm as Chance’s distinctive low voice rolled out the open door of an office adjacent to the lobby.

“If it gets any worse, let me know, John. We’ll lend a hand.” I could see Chance’s back as he stood looking out the window behind his desk, the phone to his ear.

“Miranda. What’s up?” There was an office on each side of the small reception space, and Sam appeared from the side opposite Chance’s office, no doubt summoned by the bell above the front door.

“Hey Sam.” My eyes were locked on Chance’s broad back, a dark flannel pulled tightly across the muscles just below the curls that were beginning to form at the top of his tanned neck. I pulled my gaze away to land on Sam instead. His familiar face was hardly a comfort. Chance and Sam’s eyes were almost identical, and the angular cut of their cheekbones and jaws were similar too. Both Palmer brothers could have been carved from stone—they were that good looking.

Despite their similar faces, I swooned when Chance looked at me, and I definitely felt something when my eyes met Sam’s—only I wasn’t sure exactly what it was. He made me nervous. Not in a good way, but in a way that kept me on my toes. And the way he was staring at me now made me uncomfortable. Like he was trying to figure something out. I was suddenly regretting wearing my hair down.

Best get to the point. “I came in to ask about that job. The administrative one?” My fingers found the tassel on my purse and began pulling at it.

Sam stepped out of his office and squinted at me as one side of his mouth lifted in a half-smile. He looked confused, his face crinkling up. “Why?”

Annoyance flooded me. This was the problem with Sam. Nothing was straightforward. I sighed, turning to see if Chance might be done with his call and come out so I could speak to him instead. Of course then I’d be nervous instead of annoyed. “I thought I might be able to help out with that.”

“It’s not a ‘help out’ type of thing. It’s a job. And you already have a job. And you’re in school.” Sam leaned his tall body against the door jam of his office and crossed his big arms over his broad chest. He gave off an air of judgment that put me on edge. And of course he was being difficult about something that could be simple.

“But Chance said it was part time?”

“What part of the time do you see yourself being here?” He was smiling now and I got the distinct impression he was toying with me. I shifted my weight uncomfortably as I stood there, in Maddie’s khaki pants and flowered blouse. The clothes had me feeling a bit unlike myself, and now I was standing here like an idiot in the middle of the room and Sam was being difficult. I had no doubt Chance would have offered me a seat. He was the polite brother. Sam was just watching me, like I was put there to amuse him.

“The part of the time when you guys need me, I guess.” My voice didn’t carry the confident edge I wanted it to, so I cleared my throat and continued. “I can rearrange my diner shifts if I need to, and college is online. I do most of my work at night anyway.”

“Right.” Sam chewed on his bottom lip for a second and then something about his fingernails caught his attention. He brought his hand to his face and rubbed his thumb against his index finger, looking intently at it. Finally he tucked his hand back under the opposite elbow and looked back up at me. “Okay.” He stood upright again and turned around to head back into his office, leaving me standing in the middle of the room.

Okay? What did that mean?

Tawna Fenske author photo Authors Dish
Tawna Fenske: So many books! I have a couple Jill Shalvis books cued up for Christmas reading. I’m also looking forward to What Is Not Yours by Helen Oyeymi and a new mystery read from debut author Kathleen Valenti called Protocol. Oh! and Kristan Higgins’ latest –she’s tops on my auto-buy list!

Author Photo 2 200x300 Authors DishNaima Simone: Right now I’m reading Wrong to Need You by Alisha Rai. And I have Hate to Want You in the line-up right after it. Alisha Rai! OMG! Where have I been? I think I’ve found a new author to stalk. LOL!

Rae: If readers are a fan of your books, who should they consider reading?

Delancey Stewart: Tracy Brogan, Terri Osburn and Melanie Summers

Tawna Fenske: If you enjoy my zanier romantic comedies like Making Waves or Frisky Business, you’d probably enjoy books by Jennifer Crusie or Linda Grimes. If you like my meatier rom-coms that straddle the line between women’s fiction and romance (This Time Around, At the Heart of It, About that Fling), you’d probably enjoy Kristan Higgins. If you like small-town romance in a shorter, cozier read (like my newest rom-com, Studmuffin Santa), you’d probably like Kait Nolan. And if you enjoy my super-steamy erotic rom-coms like The List, you’d probably enjoy Lauren Blakely, Victoria Dahl, or Samanthe Beck.

Naima Simone: Samanthe Beck, Lauren Hawkeye, Gina Maxwell, Cathryn Fox, Robin Covington, and Nina Crespo.

Rae: Thank you so much authors! Let me know dear readers if you try any of these books. I’ll see you next week – same time for new authors and more fun!

Tawna Fenske: When Tawna Fenske finished her English lit degree at 22, she celebrated by filling a giant trash bag full of romance novels and dragging it everywhere until she’d read them all. Now she’s a RITA-nominated, USA Today bestselling author who writes humorous fiction, risqué romance, and heartwarming love stories with a quirky twist. Publishers Weekly has praised Tawna’s offbeat romances with multiple starred reviews and noted, “There’s something wonderfully relaxing about being immersed in a story filled with over-the-top characters in undeniably relatable situations. Heartache and humor go hand in hand.”

Tawna lives in Bend, Oregon, with her husband, stepkids, and a menagerie of ill-behaved pets. Naima Simone: USA Today Bestselling author Naima Simone’s love of romance was first stirred by Johanna Lindsey, Sandra Brown and Linda Howard many years ago. Well not that many. She is only eighteen…ish. Though her first attempt at a romance novel starring Ralph Tresvant from New Edition never saw the light of day, her love of romance, reading and writing has endured. Published since 2009, she spends her days—and nights— writing sizzling romances with a touch of humor and snark.

She is wife to Superman, or his non-Kryptonian, less bullet proof equivalent, and mother to the most awesome kids ever. They all live in perfect, sometimes domestically-challenged bliss in the southern United States.

I stared at the mallet in his hand, and realized that he’d been pounding a sign into the ground in front of the half-framed house that stood next to my trailer. We were actually talking to one another through the non-existent walls of the front room. The front room of my dream house. My ex-dream house. The one I had been building with my ex-husband. Jack.
“What’s the deal with the sign?”
“What do think the deal with the sign is?” Jack grinned and my blood bubbled hot beneath my skin.
“It’s eight a.m. I don’t want to play guessing games.”
Jack turned away from me as a car motored slowly up the narrow road and came to a stop behind where he stood. “I think you’re about to find out.” As he said it, he turned back around and winked at me.
The wink threw me over the edge.
“Don’t wink at me, you ass!” I practically screamed it, and as I did, the Love Rebuilt Delancey Stewart 200x300 Teaser Tuesday Love Rebuilt by Delancey Stewartowner of the car emerged, his head turning my way as he ran a hand through shiny auburn locks.
Wow. I suppressed an involuntary shiver and pulled my robe a little closer around me.
The car was one of those practical luxury types. A Land Rover or a Land Cruiser or some kind of four-wheel-drive Land thing. I wasn’t an expert in slow, hulking cars. Actually, given that I now found myself living in a shack next to a half-built reminder of my failed marriage and was working in a diner, it turned out that I was not an expert at anything. Not marriage. And certainly not men.
The man who approached the threshold of my trailer, taking in all my terrycloth-robed glory, had an air of practical luxury about him, too. He was tall and broad, his hair glinting with hints of copper in the sunlight. It was a little long, a little messy, but clearly some attention was paid to it, since it looked thick and healthy. He wore aviator sunglasses and they hid most of his face. But not his lips. And his lips…his lips were like a sculpture. The kind of lips that would make nuns blush and giggle. They were a little too perfect, maybe. But the guy wore flannel, like most people in this mountain town. And the short stubble covering his jaw gave him a rugged look that inspired a wild urge to rub my hand over it. Or better yet, photograph it. I longed to dart back inside for my camera, but I already looked like a loon. A robe-wearing loon with a camera would definitely not be better. The man stepped around the car, gazing up at the half-built house, and I chastised myself for staring. My fascination, beyond his movie-hunk looks, was that this man was clearly different from the other people I’d seen up here, but he still managed to fit in. Something I hadn’t mastered.
“How much?” the man asked, speaking to Jack.
“How much what?” I asked, my voice bordering on a high-pitched scream. What was going on here?
Jack ignored me. “I guess given the state, and the fact that winter’s not far out, the better question is what’s it worth to you?”
The man walked around the house, stepping into rooms, and testing structural beams with his hands and his body weight.
While he wandered around inside my house, I stepped down the front step and stomped through the dust in my pink slippers to where Jack stood with his arms crossed.
“What is going on?” I hissed.
Jack raised an eyebrow as he looked at me. “Is that the teddy from our wedding night?”
I glanced down, horrified to see a flash of leopard-print silk exposed in the deep V-neck of the robe. “No.” It was. He was right. My humiliation was practically complete.
“You can take the girl out of the city…” Jack grinned, shaking his head.
I pulled the robe tighter. So what if I still wore my expensive lingerie to bed? I deserved nice things. Even if Jack had taken most of them from me. “What the hell are you doing?”
“Selling the house for you.”
“For me?”
“Thought you’d appreciate the help.”
“I don’t want your help, you cheating ass!”
The man had stopped examining the house and was looking toward me now, a tilt to his head and a half-smile on those sculpted lips. I wished he’d take off those damned shades so I could see what he thought of this whole exchange, which he had surely overheard. I don’t know why I cared.

Mr. Big by Delancey Stewart – Review and Excerpt

MrBigCover 197x300 Mr. Big by Delancey Stewart Review and ExcerptMr. Big by Delancey Stewart is full of hot chemistry and characters that squeeze into that soft spot in your heart. One-click and discover a man troubled by family secrets and the woman who will show him how to embrace and accept his past. I love when a book can make me laugh, cry, and crave more from it’s characters. I do hope that there will be more!

Oliver Cody has a family obligation, one that is supposed to define him. A family tragedy changes everything. Now forced to face his demons will he push everyone away? For the first time he will discover that he will need to trust in order to heal.

Holland O’Dell has worked her ass off to make something of her life. A job she loves despite being passed over for promotions. When she vents over coffee to a stranger, will her life turn around? What will she do when she uncovers his identity?

Holland and Oliver are more alike than they realize, and the things they crave the most make them so perfectly matched. I love the tenacity and dedication they share. The chemistry is hot, and the story is packed with little nuggets to keep you reading till the very last page.

I loved reading this story of a man on the brink of a break-down and whose world is turned upside down. Oliver Cody is sexy, smart and struggling to find himself after a devastating loss that brings tragic news. Holland will impact his life and show him that things aren’t always as they seem. If Oliver and Holland are going to work they will have to accept the things they can’t change from the past and learn to trust in each other. It’s great to plan but sometimes it’s the unplanned events that matter the most and change our lives for the better!

Don’t miss this must read! With the heat and intensity in this book I give it three Peppers as it’s pretty hot and might offend. For mature readers 18+%name Mr. Big by Delancey Stewart Review and Excerpt

EXCERPT:

I stepped out of the elevator and accidentally made eye contact with the receptionist.
She popped up from behind the tall lobby desk on the executive floor like a perky whack-a-mole. She hesitated, as if for a second she thought she’d made a mistake about who I was—I wore a ball cap low over my eyes and my hair was a long mess hanging around my neck. I didn’t look the part of CEO. But then she stepped out, clearly having confirmed my identity somehow. “Sir, there are a few messages,” she said, her fist full of pink message slips. It seemed she had a knack for understatement.
“No.” I strode past her, ignoring the hurt look on her face and instantly regretting the terse bark of my own voice.
The top floor of Cody Technology was made up of the CEO and CFO’s offices, along with the office of our lead counsel. Three secretaries were positioned around the circular interior, one in front of each door, sentinels guarding their respective power players.
“Is Rob in?” I stood in front of the center desk, before the CFO’s secretary.
She took her time looking up from her screen, and her eyes narrowed in suspicion as they took in the ripped jeans, faded T-shirt, and Dodgers cap pulled low over my face, which sported three days’ worth of stubble.
“You have an appointment with Mr. Eastburn?” she asked, adding emphasis on the “Mr.” part, sending me a message about his importance.
I stood silently and watched recognition clear the uppity smirk from her features. A cold apologetic fear replaced her smug smile and she sat up straighter, raising her hands in an apology. “Oh God, Mr. Cody! I didn’t recognize you, I . . . uh . . .”
I didn’t have the energy for this. I stepped around the desk and walked into Rob’s office as the woman continued apologizing outside.
“Rob,” I barked. My best friend and CFO of Cody Technology jumped up from his desk, and I watched his face run through several expressions back-to-back. Surprise, sympathy, irritation, back to sympathy. “You left a message?”
He came around the desk and reached out his arms as if he were going to pull me into a hug, but then seemed to think better of it. He crossed his arms and ran a hand across his jaw. “Ollie, I’m so sorry, man.”
I shook my head. I didn’t want his sympathy. I didn’t want anyone’s sympathy. It was part of why I’d avoided seeing anyone I knew after the funeral. They didn’t know me, anyway. How could they, when I didn’t even know myself? The lawyer had confirmed that. “What’s going on?” I asked, my voice sharp as I stood tense in the center of his office.
“I just . . .” Rob struggled, and I watched us from somewhere above, totally removed. I’d known Rob since we were kids. I could read him like a book, and he looked like a kid now—confused and uncertain. “Do you wanna go get a drink, man? Talk a bit?”
“Let me make this easy,” I said. “Adam’s gone. I’m gone. I’m going to sell my shares as soon as I can, and you can do whatever you want with what’s left.”
Rob’s face slackened, his dark eyes widening. “What? You can’t do that, Oliver. I mean . . . why would you do that?”
“Things have changed.”
“I know you were searching before the accident, trying to figure some things out,” he said. “But . . .” He shook his head, his eyes falling to the plush carpet as if he might find the answers there in the complex weave. “This place is your legacy, man.”
His words felt like a punch to the gut and I realized how much I wanted a drink. Just not with Rob. Not with anyone who believed they knew exactly who Oliver Cody was.
