There are just so many to choose from! For me, I’m always ready to dive into a romance where our beloved heroine wears glasses. This was no exception!

Excerpt:

A dull painting of some long dead ancestor served as a functional balm to the disconcerting thoughts that swirled in Damian’s brain, as well as the ache below his belly button, as he joined Blake in the study, for a brandy and men’s talk. At least, in the masculine domain marked by leather wall inserts, a Harrison chronometer, and the tinge of cigar smoke, Damian did not need to worry about an interrogation on such scintillating topics as courtship and marriage.

“It is remarkably pleasing to see you, brother, as it has been since the end of January, when last we gathered at Elliott House.” Blake handed Damian a drink and eased to a leather high-back chair. “So, how long have you been in love with Lucy?”

“I am not in love with her.” Damian tugged on his cravat. “She is possessed of keen intelligence.”

“Indeed, she is.”

“And she is a devil of a fisherman.”

“Indeed, she is.”

“She is blessed with sharp wit.”

“Again, you are correct. Yet, none of that fits your usual requirements.” Blake smirked. “So tell me, just the same, when she captured your special attention.”

“I beg your pardon?” For all of two seconds, Damian panicked. Just as quick, he tamped his anxiety, studied the polished toes of his Hessians, and composed himself. “Will you be serious?”

“At four and thirty, I am set in my ways, thus my query should not surprise you.” Blake snickered. “And you have it bad, my friend, thus it is my turn to gloat, and gloat I shall.”

“I submit you have spent too much time in your wife’s company, because you sound like a matchmaking mama.” Perhaps Damian should have remained at Penhurst. “And if memory serves, I supported you in your conquest to win Lenore.”

“Not without the customary ribbing that often accompanies the shark infested waters known as courtship, when I thought you might forgo such childish nonsense.” Blake assessed his fingernails and narrowed his stare. “Thus I believe it only fair to return the favor. And did I not warn you about the younger Miss Teversham, in Portsea?”

“You did.” And Blake’s powers of foresight still irked Damian. “But I had hoped you might rise above childish sport.”

“A-ha.” The leader of the Brethren slapped his thighs. “I am correct in my assertion, and do not try to deny it. Wait until I tell Lenore, as she made me swear to keelhaul you, if you ruined Lucy.”

“There is nothing to deny, because there is nothing between us.” Why could Damian not confide in Blake? What kept Damian silent, when he had shared every single conquest with a man who could not be more a sibling were they bound by blood? “And you would side with Lenore over me?”

“When you are married, you will understand that the bond between a husband and a wife supersedes all else, and you never want to anger your bride, or you could end up sleeping on the daybed in your study.” Then Blake coughed. “Not that I know what that is like, but I submit I could never strike you, so you need not worry. Now, tell me why you frown.”

“Am I that obvious?” When Blake rolled his eyes, Damian groaned. As the mantel clock ticked in a steady rhythm, he reflected on Lucy’s peculiar behavior. “Has Lenore mentioned anything that might be troubling her sister?”

“No.” Blake shifted and leaned against the armrest. “Why do you ask?”

“Because there is something distant in her manner, something new and bothersome, but she will not confide in me.” Or was it a recent development? Given Lucy’s changed demeanor after her kidnapping, she possessed a forlorn undercurrent that drew him to her, as he ached to rescue her from her desolation and despair and restore her ebullient smile, much absent of late. “When we first met, Lucy boasted a seemingly endless supply of energy mixed with joy. However, upon her return from her captivity, she struck me as more mature, yet I am convinced there is more to it.”

“And that is when you commenced the chase.” Propped on an elbow, Blake rested his chin in his hand. “How far have you progressed beyond illicit kisses, that I might smooth my wife’s ruffled feathers?”

“What makes you think I have kissed Lucy?” In mock affront, Damian sniffed and tugged on the lace edge of his sleeve. “As we are just friends.”

“Brother, do I look like I was born yesterday?” Blake arched a brow, and Damian realized his goose was cooked. “When you arrived, with my sister-in-law firmly planted in your lap, she bore telltale swollen lips, a blush in her cheeks, and she could not meet my gaze, evidencing a well-ravished woman. So, shall we dispense with the charade?”

“You exaggerate.” Yet, Damian yearned to savor Lucy’s mouth, as she gave vent to her sweet little moans of pleasure, which she did several times, as they navigated the graveled drive to the main entrance. “It was naught but a simple, welcoming exchange between acquaintances.”

“Is that really your story?” Blake choked on his brandy. “Because I have acquaintances too numerous to count, and we do not exchange welcomes like that.”

“You are too witty, brother.” In the future, Damian would exercise more restraint. Then again, given his love of logic, he doubted his ability to resist Lucy. “But I would argue you are more sensitive to her condition, in light of your familial connections, and you weave unsustainable inferences from whole cloth.”

“You honestly think you are fooling me.” It was a statement, not a question. Blinking, Blake sputtered. “Do you not realize your refusal to share the details only confirms my suspicions?”

“Because you did the same thing with Lenore.” The fog cleared, and Damian discovered, too late, that his conclusion confirmed Blake’s suppositions. “Then again, I am nothing if not discreet.”

“Oh, I see.” Why did Blake’s smile raise the hair on the back of Damian’s neck? “It was prudence that led you to weigh anchor in Lady Wilhelmina’s harbor, in my box at the Theatre Royal on Drury Lane. Or the time you sailed Lady Amelia’s middle passage, on the desk in my study at Elliott House, during Mama’s birthday celebration. Then there was the afternoon I found you naked as the day you were born, with Lady Julia, atop the table in my quarters aboard the Tristan. And then—”

“That is quite enough, and I get your meaning.” Frustrated, Damian pushed from the chair and paced before the hearth, a habit he loathed and often eschewed, as it indicated a lack of control, but he had to do something, else he might run amok. Still, he was unprepared to dissect his feelings for Lucy. “Let me assure you that I care naught for Miss Lucilla, as she is a bespectacled, unpolished termagant destined to become the next Lady Hester Stanhope. Indeed, Lucy possesses naught to recommend her, other than her substantial dowry, of which I have no need, and her newfound familial connections, which I already share.”

Bestselling author Barbara Devlin was born a storyteller. A Texan, through and through, Barbara hasn’t been without a book in her possession since she was in kindergarten. She wrote her first short story, a really cheesy murder-mystery, in high school, but it was a Christmas gift, a lovely little diary with a bronze lock, given to her in the fifth grade that truly inspired her love of writing.

After completing part of her undergraduate studies at the University of London, where she developed a love of all things British, Barbara returned home and began a career in banking. But the late 80s weren’t too promising for the financial industry, and every bank that hired Barbara soon folded. So she searched for a stable occupation, and the local police department offered the answer to her prayers.

Initially, Barbara wasn’t too sure about her new career in law enforcement, but she soon came to love being a police officer. And then one uncharacteristically cold and icy day in December 1998, Barbara was struck by a car and pinned against a guardrail while working an accident on a major highway. Permanently disabled, she retired from the police department and devoted her time and energy to physical therapy.

Once Barbara got back on her feet, she focused on a new career in academia. She earned an MA in English and continued a course of study for a Doctorate in Literature and Rhetoric. She happily considered herself an exceedingly eccentric English professor, until success in Indie publishing lured her into writing, full-time, featuring her fictional knighthood, the Brethren of the Coast.

Coffee With Robyn Peterman

Coffee With Robyn Peterman

Rae: Thank you so much for hanging out with me today. If we were meeting at a coffee shop I’d be drinking a peppermint mocha with Coconut Milk. 🙂 ! What would you order?

Robyn: Large coke extra ice!

Rae: Congratulations on the production of The Christmas Carol.

Robyn: Thank you, it was awesome! My husband and I started a non profit theatre and we direct shows! Since I was an actor most of my life and my Hot Hubby still is, it’s a cool way to have fun and do something cool for our community!!

Rae: With the Christmas season upon us I hope that you and your family have a happy holidays. Do you have any traditions?

Robyn: We had a great holiday. Thank you! I hope you did too! We spend the holiday with family—both sides and we eat. A lot. Then we take naps and then eat more. Rinse and repeat.

Rae: For those who are not familiar with your work can you tell us a little bit your books. What an we expect to see on the bookshelves in 2017? Do you have any new series in the works that you can give us a tease?

Robyn: I write sexy, snarky, comedic paranormal romance and sexy, snarky, comedic contemporary romance! This year you will see more from all three of my series—Hot Damned, Shift Happens and Magic and Mayhem!!

I also have three Magic and Mayhem Kindle Worlds launching this year as well (February, June and October). This is a crazy awesome collection of amazeballs authors writing stories in my Magic and Mayhem World!

AND…..I’m going to spin one of my most popular and hotter than hell characters off into a side series. Yes, LOL, Satan will have a six book arc in the next two years! YAYAYAYAYAY!

Rae: With a bookshelf of contemporary, paranormal and Kindle Worlds, is it easy to keep characters from crossing over?

Robyn: It actually is easy. Each series is very different. The Hot Damned Series is primarily vampyres. Shift Happens Series is shifters (werewolves and dragons). The Magic and Mayhem Series is witches and the Handcuffs and Happily Everafters Series is real people…crazy real people—but no superpowers!

However, when I pop from series to series, I always have to look at my series bibles. Remembering names and eye color and little details is NOT my forte. I can’t even remember what I ate for breakfast…

Rae: I love your book covers, who designs them?

Robyn: I love my covers too!! Rebecca Poole designs my covers. She is outstanding at crawling into my brain and pulling out the crazy. I adore her and her wonderful talent!

Rae: Writing is a challenging task without any distractions. How do you find the time with a family and taking care of all the animals on your farm? By way, I think that’s so cool. Did you wake up one day and decide you wanted to buy a farm or was it something that you had been exposed to growing up?

Robyn: Well…I don’t sleep much for starters. I tend to write at night. I’ve also written many books in my car waiting for my kids at lacrosse/soccer/dance practice! All I need to write is quiet.

As for the farm, it’s something my husband and I love. I have a bad habit of collecting stray animals and a farm is a perfect place to indulge that addiction. LOL

Rae: It was so much fun having you here today!

Robyn: It’s been my pleasure. Thank you for having me!

Coffee With Jamie Farrell

Coffee With Jamie Farrell

Rae: Thank you so much for hanging out with me today.

Jamie: Thank you so much for having me!

Rae: If we were meeting at a coffee shop I’d be drinking a peppermint mocha with Coconut Milk. 🙂 ! What would you order?

Jamie: I’m a tea girl. Irish breakfast tea with milk and sugar is delish!

Rae: Congratulations on your new release, tell us everything. Ok, not everything, perhaps where this sets up in your Officers Ex-Wives series. If a reader hasn’t read the other books, will it stand on it’s own or should we start reading the other books now?

Jamie: Thank you! My new release, Sweet Serendipity, is a standalone novella in Melanie Shawn’s Hope Falls Kindle World. It’s loosely related to the Officers’ Ex-Wives series—when Wyatt isn’t vacationing in Hope Falls, he’s in the military, and he’s newly re-assigned to (the fictional) Gellings Air Force Base, where the Officers’ Ex-Wives Club series is set. In Sweet Serendipity, Skye is Wyatt’s best friend’s little sister. He’s had a crush on her forever, but she’s never really liked him at all. But when they end up sharing a vacation house in Hope Falls, anything goes!!

The next official Officers’ Ex-Wives Club romance, Her Rebel Heart, is coming in March! It’s a full-length prequel novel featuring a sexy military cargo pilot, a feisty and unpredictable physics professor, and some awesome Southern (redneck) fun. (The phrase “Want to touch my catapult?” may or may not be used as a euphemism in Her Rebel Heart… *whistling innocently*)

All of my books can be read by themselves, but I love to put in Easter eggs for loyal readers with crossover characters and world-hopping.

Rae: For those who are not familiar with your work can you tell us a little bit your books?

Jamie: I write lighthearted romantic comedies with heart. The Misfit Brides series is set in the “Most Married-est Town on Earth,” where the primary economy of the town revolves around the wedding industry. They’re goofy, campy fun, but they also have some emotional threads that I hope will ring true for readers.

And the Officers’ Ex-Wives Club is a funny look at the reality of military family life. I love my Misfit Brides, but my Officers’ Ex-Wives hold a special place in my heart because they come from so much truth in my life. Including the funny parts – in the name of research for this series, I’ve fired potato cannons and gotten a fire ant infestation in my car.

Rae: What can we expect to see on the bookshelves in 2017? Do you have any new series in the works that you can give us a tease?

Jamie: 2017 is starting with a lot of fun! Both Sweet Serendipity and Her Rebel Heart are coming this winter, and I’m planning another Misfit Brides book for this fall. In the meantime, I’m working on a secret project that I’m not ready to talk about yet. (But I promise it’ll be lots of fun.)

Rae: As a military spouse what challenges do you face as a writer? Is there a favorite city that you hope to return to before your husband retires?

Jamie: Hands down, the biggest challenge is moving, followed closely by missions that take the hubby away for weeks at a time. When we move, I’m typically out of commission for writing for at least a month, if not longer depending on all kinds of variables from timing of the move to the childcare and housing and school situations on both ends of the move.

And I would love to get back to the Gulf Coast one day! My oldest was just a year old when we first moved to Eglin Air Force Base in the Florida panhandle, and my youngest was six months when we left, so we basically had babies the whole time we were there. I’d love to go back and enjoy the beach more. (Plus, they have Publix. I love Publix grocery stores!)

Rae: Your series is on audio-book, were you able to select who narrated your books?

Jamie: Funny story – my narrator, Karen White, actually picked me! When my first book came out, she read a review and reached out and asked if I’d sold audio rights. I listened to some of the samples on her website, and when I realized she narrated for Julie James and Jill Shalvis, I was totally hooked. I’m so thrilled to have Karen narrating both the Misfit Brides and the Officers’ Ex-Wives Club series. Her narration adds a new dimension to the stories, and I absolutely love it.

Rae: I must say I love the jumping brides on the cover of your book. That’s one shot I never took at my wedding – clever idea.

Jamie: Thank you! The covers were so fun to design, and Jaycee at Sweet ‘N Spicy Designs did such a fabulous job with the concept.

Rae: It was so much fun having you here today!

Jamie: Thank you, Rae!! I had a great time stopping by!

***** Tasty Tidbits *****

1. What is a must read book and why? The Count of Monte Cristo. I love the complexity of the plot, the deep human desires, the romance, the ethical questions sparked by Edmond’s quest for vengeance, all of it. It’s such a remarkable book.

2. What is one place that I should see if I visit your hometown? Since I’m in the DC area right now, I’m going to say Mount Vernon. It’s historically rich and it sits on such a beautiful patch of earth.

3. What is one thing readers would be surprised to know about you? I was an engineer before I was a romance writer.

4. If you had an all expenses paid trip anywhere in the world for research, where would you go? Back to Morocco. The people and culture and food fascinate me, and I’d love to put it all in a book one day.

5. What is your guilty pleasure? Chocolate. Always chocolate. 🙂

6. Binge watcher or weekly viewer? Which show(s)? Total binge-watcher! I’m binging Mysteries of Laura right now and eagerly awaiting a new season of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. (And now I have the theme song running through my head and I’m giggling.)

7. What’s your favorite movie of all time and why? The Princess Bride! Because it’s inconceivable that I pick any other movie as my favorite. 🙂

8. What is the one thing you can’t live without ? My imagination. I live there more than I live anywhere else.

9. Do you love to cook or go out to eat? I love cooking and eating homemade food, but I also love having someone else chop the vegetables and do the dishes.

Rae: Thanks again for hanging out! Time for another Peppermint Mocha  🙂  Happy Reading Dear Readers. Happy Writing Jamie

Jamie: Thank you so much, Rae! I had a lovely time, and I’m looking forward to another cup of Irish breakfast tea! Happy reading, everyone!

It’s Moving Day

Welcome to the new home of Books I Love A Latte. I want to thank the amazing Dar of Wicked Smart Designs for her creative talent in the design of my logo.  If you are in need of book covers or logos be sure to check her out! I also want to thank Kim White of Kimberly Studios for the beautiful makeover of my blog. Kimberly Studios is a one-stop shop for all of your website needs! Both ladies had great customer service and were a pleasure to work with!

Along with my new website I will be offering a few new additions in the upcoming months so stay tuned for those exciting features.

Now, what would a celebration be without a giveaway? I am offering up a Kindle Fire 7″ donated by the generous Barbara Devlin in honor of my new site!

All you have to do is leave a comment on the blog to be entered to win and then check out the rafflecopter for additional ways to enter (Open to all US Residents only!)
