On the Line by Liz Lincoln is the first book in a new must read series that I can’t get enough of. A sports romance that kicks off with Seth Chamberlain, the new player in town. This single-dad story is going to need a bit of help and Carrie Herron is just the one to lend a bit of assistance. It’s fresh, fun and I love, love, loved their meet-cute in this story.

Sweet, spicy, and a whole lot of yum! From the lickable cover to the hilarious one-liners this is the perfect bookcation!

Will Seth find a balance between work and family? Will he find love?

Liz is a “new to me” author and I can’t wait to read the next installment, Swagger which will be out this Fall.  Stay tuned readers, I’ll have a review on that one soon.

Coffee With USA Today Bestselling Author Suzan Tisdale

smallheadshot 202x300 Coffee With USA Today Bestselling Author Suzan TisdaleRae: Thank you for hanging out with me. First, if we were meeting at a coffee shop I’d be drinking an Iced Spiced Latte with Coconut Milk with caramel drizzle, what would you order?

Suzan: Black coffee please. None of that ‘froofy” coffee. lol

Rae: I want to take a minute and thank you for the videos, e-mails and posts addressing what is going on in the book industry right now. In particular, the issue of Trademarking a word, page stuffing, and all the other areas that are of concern to many readers, authors and others in the industry.

How can readers and authors educate themselves to stay on top of current issues in the publishing industry?

Suzan: It’s just as important for readers to know what is going on as it is for authors. Readers can research, listen to what authors are saying, and perhaps follow some blogs on the subject. David Gaughran has been an outspoken leader to us. You can follow him here.

Rae: For new authors just dipping their toe into the industry, what words of encouragement and advice can you give regarding these issues?

Suzan: Gird your loins. Seriously, this industry, this business is not for the faint of heart. Keep your eyes open, take advice from people you respect and admire. Stay clear of all the ‘get rich quick’ schemes that are plaguing the market right now. Write from your heart, with fervor, zeal, and passion. And get a great editor!

Rae: I was watching one of your Facebook live videos where mentioned quickly how you became a published author. Can you share with us how that happened and how it impacted your writing career?

Suzan: That’s a long story. The short of it is, I wrote my first novel, Laiden’s Daughter, for my mother. I never thought it would be as successful as it was or that it would launch my writing career. I published it in December of 2011 and by February 2012, it was #3 at Amazon. It has been a beautiful journey ever since!

Rae: For those who are discovering you for the first time, can you share a little bit about your books, how many series you have, and what you love most about writing Scottish Historical Romance? Will there be more adventures in the near future?

Suzan: I write about perfectly imperfect heroes, strong heroines, and bad guys I kill off in wickedly delightful ways. There is always intrigue and mystery, sometimes more than just one bad guy, and almost always a happily ever after. I’ve lost track of the number of series I have! And yes, there is always another book in the works!

Rae: What is your latest release?Rodrick the Bold Kindle 200x300 Coffee With USA Today Bestselling Author Suzan Tisdale

Suzan: Rodrick the Bold is my most recent release.

(Blurb and cover image provided by Suzan Tisdale)

A beautiful lass with hair the color of fire and eyes of emerald green would be a dream most men would happily invite. But these dreams, of the lass calling to him, begging for his help, haunt Rodrick the Bold. When the nightmares become too much, he sets off to find the lass who calls to him nightly. Not known for his warm heart nor eloquent way with words, he seeks to rescue her if only to be free of the torment.

Held as the pawn in a plot of treachery and deceit, Muriel MacFarland does not know who to trust or believe. Her once quiet, ordinary life is torn asunder when she is kidnapped and sold. Tormented and abused, she gives up all hope of a rescue by her brother and believes her life is no longer worth living.

Can Muriel put her faith, trust, and life in the hands of the stranger who comes to rescue her?

Will Rodrick the Bold’s wish for a family of his own come true?

Rae: How often do you travel for research, and what is your favorite city to visit to enhance the worlds you write about?

Suzan: I’ve never travelled for research before. However, in July of this year, my husband and I are going to Scotland for two weeks! This is a dream-of-a-lifetime trip, one we’ve saved up for to take. I plan on doing lots of research while we’re there!

Rae: There has been a lot of chatter on social media about planning and organizing to stay focused and succeed in personal goals for 2018. How do you keep it all from spiraling out of orbit between the family life and writer life? Are you a planner girl or digital calendar queen?

Suzan: Well, up until Cockygate and Tiffanygate, I was a dry erase board planner! The last two months have upended my writing schedule. It seems there is a new fresh hell waiting for us every morning!

Rae: Writing all the words is a challenge, do you have a writing ritual or secret location to get the work done?

Suzan: Nope. I simply sit down and write. I must have peace and quite while writing. Although sometimes, when I’m writing a battle scene, I will listen to the Game of Thrones or Hobbit soundtracks.

Rae: How do you tackle plotting your series? Is it on a massive board, sheets of paper or just write as you go with a simple outline? A lot of authors use Pinterest and make awesome boards to tease readers, are you one of them?

Suzan: I have my wall of insanity. I now use poster board with colored post its to help me plot. I did a video on that a few weeks ago.

Rae: When you are not busy writing, you keep readers updated on social media, what are your favorite types of posts, pics, or tweets?

Suzan: I love using Facebook most. However, I’ve just launched a new app for my readers. Twitter is good, but man, do the trolls like to bite your ankles! You can find more information about my app here

Rae: Where can readers find you in 2018?

Suzan: Leading the Indie Resistance! Lol I’ll be going to InD’Scribe in Burbank in October.

Rae: What books will you be releasing in 2018?

Suzan: That’s top secret! I have not made a formal announcement yet about next release 😀

Rae: Thank you for hanging out in the cafe today.

4 Scorchin Larger Image Final 300x300 Insatiable by Michelle Hazen Blog Tour Review, Excerpt & GiveawayMichelle Hazen delivers and emotionally satisfying story of a man who has so much to offer, so much to give, and so much to live for. I am thrilled his story is finally being told. This story is Scorchin hot. Caution, may lead to unexpected need to turn on the A/C.

While this book does contain spoilers to earlier books in the series it can be read as a standalone. If you’re the type of reader who enjoys reading a series from start to finish then I highly recommend reading the first two books to fully enjoy the band and the journey they’re on. Please note that the first book I read was Playing the Pauses and I didn’t feel confused. Instead I found myself needing to add Fill me to my must read list to read.

I received an ARC for a fair and honest review.  Don’t miss your chance to read it today. Get your copy here.

“Jax, wait!” She grabs my arm.
“Still not ready to sleep?”
Please God, let her ask me to hold her. That happens in Jera’s romance novels all the time. And okay, the heroes never pop inappropriate wood, but that’s just because they’re a bunch of P~$$ies.
Ava nods, and I can’t quite read the look in her eye. Her hand feels soft on my arm and when it drops away, my skin tingles. “If you want to trade in truth or dare for a bedtime story next time, I rock at Dr. Seuss. Jera’s daughter can’t get enough of rhyming.” I half-smile. “Songwriter’s kid, you know.”
“Sorry. You should go catch a nap before the plane lands. I need a new damn boyfriend is all.” Ava sighs. “Hate sleeping alone.”
My heart jolts and I briefly debate the wisdom of jumping up and down, waving my arm in the air. Decide against it on the basis of possible un-coolness points. “You could try your bodyguard. Judging by the look he gave me when I was on my way in here, he’s dying to play Big Spoon.”
Ava laughs. “Yeah, not even a little bit. Plus, his wife is in my knitting group back home.”
“AVA knitting? From the girl who started the skull-with-pink-bow trend, that’s some serious blackmail, so now we’re even.” She still looks glum, so I skim my knuckles down her arm. “Come on, you’re not really alone. You’re on a tiny plane with the world’s most prescient flight attendant, a vampire bat, and a makeup artist whom I suspect of reading the dictionary. For pleasure.”
She laughs, squirming around until she’s straight on the bed again and squinting up at me as a tiny curl falls into her eyes. “You’re crazy weird, you realize that, right?”
“They’re your hand-picked staff, not mine.” I head for the door and pause with my hand on the knob. “I’ll totally stay and cuddle with you, you know. As long as you have sex with me three, maybe four times first.”
“Four?” She pushes her hair out of her face. “Oh, is that all?”
I wink. “‘If you never did, you should. These things are fun, and fun is good.’”
“Oh my God, did you just sex-quote Dr. Seuss at me?” She explodes into my favorite laugh, the gasping snorty one.
I close the door, grinning. Which sucks, because I look like a fool when I realize her bodyguard is still awake, swiveled so he can watch me come out of her airplane’s bedroom.
And he still hasn’t blinked.

Exclusive Excerpt 300x300 Playing For Keeps by Taryn Leigh Taylor Review, Giveaway, and Exclusive Excerpt

Check out an EXCLUSIVE excerpt from The Extra Shot post earlier this year.

“Can I try?”

He turned to face her fully, resting an elbow on the top of the stick. She didn’t want to notice the snug fit of his grey t-shirt over his incredible chest, but she couldn’t help herself.

“Why?” Suspicion made his voice flat.

“You said this is your passion.” She shrugged. “Maybe hockey is my passion, too.”

Rebecca didn’t suppose he meant his skeptical face to look cute, but it kind of was.

“Besides,” she went in for the kill, “you wouldn’t have any pucks if I hadn’t burned those cupcakes.”

“Well, personally I don’t understand how hitting things with a piece of wood could be your passion,” he chided, “but help yourself.”

She followed his head tip to find an old garbage can full of hockey sticks to her right, tucked beside the building. Grabbing one, she marched over to join him in the center of the tarmac.

“Whoa there, slugger.” Eric grabbed the stick from her and walked back to the garbage can. “As a rule,” he said over his shoulder, shoving the stick back in and picking a new one, “you don’t want the stick to be taller than you.”

He came back and held his selection in front of her. His knuckles brushed her arm as he measured, and she stiffened at the contact. It came just a bit above her armpit.

“That one’s close. Since your shoes are kind of like being on skates.”

She accepted the new stick. It felt awkward in her hands. “Okay, coach. What do I do?”

“Well, first of all, this isn’t golf. You’re going to want to spread your hands apart and choke up on the shaft.”

Her inner teen boy snort-laughed at the instructions. “Say what?”

He rolled his eyes at her childishness, but the corner of his mouth tugged up as he stick-handled a cupcake into place in front of her.

“Now you want the puck, or in our case, the cupcake, more in the center of the blade,” he instructed.

“That’s the curvy part?” she clarified, waggling her hips a little as she got set to take her shot. The sudden weight of his hand on her lower back made her freeze in place.

“Still not golf,” he reminded her, and his deep voice unleashed a shiver down her spine.

Had she been standing this close to him the whole time?

Eric removed his hand and took a step back, readjusting his grip on his hockey stick. “So now you just shift your weight, flick your wrists, and follow through by pointing the toe of your blade at whatever you’re aiming for.”

His demonstration ended with another snipe to the top left-hand corner. Hers…rolled harmlessly on the pavement, stopping two feet in front of her stick.

She expected a joke then, but instead his face was earnest and encouraging. “Not bad.” He stick-handled another cupcake in front of her. She forced herself to focus on the task at hand, instead of wondering how his hockey skills might transfer into…other areas. Rebecca had always been a sucker for a man who was good with his hands.

“This time, stand a little closer, put your weight on your back foot to start.”

She followed his instructions, and her cupcake rolled all the way to the wall this time.

“Yeah! Yes. That’s what I’m talking about!”

Rebecca returned his high-five. She was a little surprised at the pride tingling through her limbs. It was such a silly little accomplishment—flinging a cupcake at a wall with a stick. And yet, Eric’s patient tutelage and genuine joy in her triumph made it feel like a big deal. It was the same way she always felt when tackling something new, only…more somehow. It was kind of nice celebrating an accomplishment with someone else. Dangerous. But nice.

Kind of like his smile, she decided, as her eyes dropped to his mouth. He seemed really close again. Or was she the one moving forward? His shoulders were very broad, and she had to tip her head back to meet his eyes. Even in her three-and-a-half inch heels she wasn’t tall enough to kiss him. He’d have to lean forward a bit and—

A loud crash broke into the moment, and Rebecca whirled around to face the big dumpster in the far corner, heart jack-hammering at the weird scrambling sound emanating from behind it. Eric barely glanced over at the source of the noise, although he seemed to be breathing heavier than normal, too.

“Probably just Mario.”

“Who?”

“Our alley cat.”

“You have a cat?”

“Not really. I mean, we’ve never seen him. Just hear him out here foraging sometimes. He likes cake.”

She watched in fascination as he scooped up a cupcake with his stick, bounced it on the curve—the blade, she corrected herself—a few times, and then lobbed it gently in the direction of the dumpster. It fell neatly between the wall and the big bin. There was a scuffling sound—a big hungry cat who wasn’t overly picky about whether or not his dinner had baking powder in it, she surmised.

Rebecca flushed a little at the show of skill. It was kind of…hot, the way he wielded his stick. She cleared her throat and shoved her mind back to more innocuous things. “So why did your grandma name him Mario?”

“Uh. Actually I named him.” Eric’s blush spread up his neck and reddened his ears. “Mario LeMeow. You know, like Mario Lemieux…played center for Pittsburgh? Hockey legend?” he added, when Rebecca shrugged uncomprehendingly at the name. “But, you know, with meow. Because cat.”

Rebecca couldn’t fight the smile that dawned. “That’s pretty much the most adorable thing I’ve ever heard.”

Eric frowned, and the disgruntled look on his face knocked cat names down to second place on the adorable list. “Just shoot, wouldja?”

tlthockey 175x300 Playing For Keeps by Taryn Leigh Taylor Review, Giveaway, and Exclusive ExcerptTaryn Leigh Taylor: Taryn Leigh Taylor likes dinosaurs, bridges, and space, both personal and of the final frontier variety. She shamelessly indulges in cliches, most notably her Starbucks addiction (grande-six-pump-whole-milk-no-water chai tea latte, aka: the usual), her shoe hoard (I can stop anytime I…ooh! These are pretty!), and her penchant for falling in lust with fictional men with great abs (yum!)

She also really loves books, which is what sent her down the crazy path of writing one in the first place.
