Demetrius (Brethrens Origins Book 2) by Barbara Devlin is another sensual story involving a Templar Knight and a plan to change his life forever. I must thank Jeanne Adams for introducing me to Barbara Devlin years ago. I love to read historical romance and the stories in this series are like nothing I’ve ever read. From start to finish this story moves, the characters are three-dimensional and the setting is mapped out perfectly.

Demetrius de Blackbourne is familiar with battles and working for the king. Unfortunately the King has ordered he marry and consummate the blessed union. If only he had a clue about women and how they worked. Despite the Knights willingness to guide him he refuses their help, sort of. Will he relinquish the one thing he vowed to keep forever, his chastity?

Athelyna Des Moutiers has lived in a convent and is convinced she is here to do the Lords work. There is no way she will marry or be forced to marry, so she runs away hoping to escape her new fate. Why can’t her brother see that she has no interest to marry? Sharp tongued and ready to defend herself, Athel has no fear. Hopefully she will discover that Demetrius is the perfect partner for her. If she resists the union, no one will be safe.

A chance encounter with a stranger will forever change their path as they embark on a journey of the soul. It will take courage, strength and wisdom to navigate unchartered terrain. Who will they turn to for guidance and who can be trusted?

One of the most exquisite details is that this story has a hero and heroine who are inexperienced lover. I applaud Barbara for her attention to details in this sensitive subject and the way they develop as the story progresses.   What will happen to Athel and Demetrius when they discover they are both inexperienced? Will it solidify their union or push them apart forever?

Once again Barbara has written a sensually-charged historical romance that is bewitching and captivating. There is a battle raging of the heart as friendships and loyalties are tested.

Bestselling author Barbara Devlin was born a storyteller. A Texan, through and through, Barbara hasn’t been without a book in her possession since she was in kindergarten. She wrote her first short story, a really cheesy murder-mystery, in high school, but it was a Christmas gift, a lovely little diary with a bronze lock, given to her in the fifth grade that truly inspired her love of writing.

After completing part of her undergraduate studies at the University of London, where she developed a love of all things British, Barbara returned home and began a career in banking. But the late 80s weren’t too promising for the financial industry, and every bank that hired Barbara soon folded. So she searched for a stable occupation, and the local police department offered the answer to her prayers.

Initially, Barbara wasn’t too sure about her new career in law enforcement, but she soon came to love being a police officer. And then one uncharacteristically cold and icy day in December 1998, Barbara was struck by a car and pinned against a guardrail while working an accident on a major highway. Permanently disabled, she retired from the police department and devoted her time and energy to physical therapy.

Once Barbara got back on her feet, she focused on a new career in academia. She earned an MA in English and continued a course of study for a Doctorate in Literature and Rhetoric. She happily considered herself an exceedingly eccentric English professor, until success in Indie publishing lured her into writing, full-time, featuring her fictional knighthood, the Brethren of the Coast.
